Schisandra berries (Schisandra chinensis) are also known as the "Five Flavour Fruit". The purple-red berries have a complex taste described as sweet, salty, bitter, pungent and sour. If you have never tasted them before, the taste will come as a shock.

Schisandra infused gin is said to have a spicy finish and flavours reminiscent of a sea breeze.

Schisandra extract is used to improve concentration, coordination, and endurance. It is also supposed to raise energy levels and resistance to stress and disease.

In Chinese medicine they are reputed to help treat lung problems and coughing, digestive system issues and liver disease.
