The Wax berry (Myrica rubra) is a fruit native to eastern Asia. It has many names, such as yangmei, yamamomo, Chinese bayberry, red bayberry, yumberry, waxberry, or Chinese strawberry.

Each freeze‑dried wax berry is like a tiny puffball of fruit fibres wrapped around a single pip – light and crisp at first, then soft and jammy as it melts in your mouth, with a bright sweet‑tart flavour somewhere between raspberry, plum, and cherry and a hint of floral zing. Whole berries are perfect for straight snacking, dropping into yoghurt or oats, or adding to baking for little bursts of tangy fruit.

Naturally rich in vitamin C and plant antioxidants like flavonoids and anthocyanins, they’re a tasty way to add extra berry goodness to your day, supporting general wellness as part of a balanced diet.

They can also be

  • Infused in neutral spirits (like vodka) or light rum to make a fruity liqueur.

  • Steeped in hot water, then cooled, as a base for mocktails or kombucha-style drinks.

  • Added whole to gin and tonic or sparkling water to slowly rehydrate and release colour and flavour.
